Meet Morris

“I feel free, comfortable, and happy.”

Morris grew up in the church – a spiritual foundation during a tumultuous childhood. But when his parents divorced due to his dad’s drug addiction, that foundation crumbled. “We stopped going to church,” he says.

Without that support and community, Morris’ life began to unravel. “I started doing what I wanted to do,” he says. He got into trouble at school, on the streets, and with the law – a path that led to addiction and homelessness.

He spent time in jail, where he kept the Bible close. “I knew the truth and the right path,” he says. “I knew I was going to have to change, but it’s not easy to do when you grow up with my experiences.”

Eventually, Morris hit a breaking point. A friend told him how the Rescue Mission is different from rehab – it’s faith-based and Morris needed Jesus in his life.

As a graduate of our life-recovery program, Morris has finally been able to focus on faith and rebuild a stronger spiritual foundation. “As long as I have God in my life and I’m doing the right thing, I’ll be alright,” he says.

Morris has also learned to manage anger and process emotions in healthy ways. “Whenever I got mad, I used to turn to drugs or want to fight people,” he explains. “The Rescue Mission is helping me stay focused on myself instead of doing things that harm me or make me
feel bad.”

Morris is working on getting his GED and is considering college. He also wants to help others. “I feel that I can help other people in my family who are not on the right path,” he says. This Christmas, Morris is experiencing the gifts of peace and hope for a brighter future. Thank you for sharing the blessings of Christ’s love with him! “Since coming to the Rescue Mission, I feel free, comfortable, and happy.”
